Why Better?

We believe our love for great coffee should benefit the people, communities, and planet that make it possible.

Quality

Every coffee boasts a unique flavor profile reflective of its origin story. The soil and climate it grew in, the methods used to grow, harvest, and process the beans, and the roasting techniques used to bring out the best of each coffee all have a profound impact on the quality and taste of the coffee we drink.

We’re passionate about finding and sharing high-quality, specialty-grade coffee that is expertly roasted and delivered fresh. Respecting the supply chain - from seed to cup - ensures that you get to experience the unique origin characteristics of each coffee.

According to the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA), who defines specialty as coffee graded 80 points or above on a 100 point scale by a certified coffee taster or by a licensed Q Grader: “Specialty coffees are coffees at their peak and are different to other coffee because specialty coffee has been grown at the perfect altitude, at the correct time of year, in the best soil, and then picked at just the right time. All this translates into some of the most exciting and tasty coffee in the world.”

Organic

Coffee is one of the most chemically treated crops in the world. Organic, pesticide-free growing practices are crucial to the health of the soil and ecosystem in producing regions, the health of farmers and their families growing and harvesting the crops, and the health of consumers.

By shifting buying and consumption patterns toward certified organic specialty coffee, we’re advocating for the long-term health and well-being of those who produce and consume coffee, as well as the delicate ecosystems that make the coffee experience possible.

Although we only source certified organic coffee, we look beyond the certification to find coffee from producers that take the extra step to promote a healthy crop and healthy environment at large.  While these efforts often lead to higher production costs and lower yield for producers, the end result is a better product, a healthier community, and healthy soil that can continue to produce coffee for generations to come.

Fair Trade

Transparency in growing organic coffee is essential. Coffee communities throughout the world have been plagued by extreme poverty for generations. Oftentimes, the average price paid to coffee farmers from major global buyers is lower than actual production costs.  Impact-driven roasters and importers focus on establishing long-term, committed partnerships with producers by buying from them year after year and often paying 2-5 times fair trade minimum prices for coffee at export.

These mutually beneficial relationships provide income stability and better support for producers, which makes for a more sustainable model and helps farmers afford to continue growing the coffee we love.  A better cup of coffee can truly be better for all.

Community

Coffee serves as a primary economic engine and cultural cornerstone for millions of people and countless communities across the world.

Our mission is to showcase the products and stories of the people that bring this coffee to life, to influence better buying practices that support the livelihoods of all members of the supply chain, and to give back to organizations and change leaders helping grow stronger communities.

By drinking better, you are supporting community-first roasters committed to giving back locally and abroad. To highlight our commitment to this mission, we donate 2% of all purchases directly to non-profits that focus on community growth. Together, we can help build a stronger, healthier, more equitable coffee community.

Planet

Together, we can reduce our environmental impact and preserve the healthy soil, ecosystems, and planet necessary to grow the coffee we love.

Organic farming practices, better shipping, roasting, operating and packaging decisions, as well as increased at-home consumption can all help reduce emissions associated with your cup.

Our goal is to partner with those striving to reduce their environmental impact, while continuously working to reduce and offset our impact. Ultimately, we want you to be confidant that your coffee travelled a path that's cleaner, healthier, and better for all involved in its journey.
